Over the past decade or so, I have been honing my woodturning and pyrography skills, trying my best to honour the lives of the trees that have provided me with their beautiful wood to make special gifts for friends and family.
My current focus is on the crafting of items from native British species, often from logs or branches donated to me by friends or neighbours. In my search for a unique way to decorate my turnings I stumbled across the Tree Alphabet, created by artist Katie Holten which she uses to great effect in her recent book – The Language of Trees. I can’t think of a better way to connect a piece to the wood that it was made from and the person it is crafted for.
